Third Annual NPABC Bird Conservation Awards Ceremony (Friday 8:30 p.m.)

Chairman's Award for outstanding work of any kind in the field of avian conservation, including outstanding leadership or fundraising efforts.

Outstanding Bird Conservation Award for completion of a specific, outstanding project or activity for bird conservation in Nebraska.

Nebraska Land Stewardship Award in recognition of outstanding bird habitat management and conservation activities taking place on lands owned or managed by an individual or family, and through their efforts.

AUDUBON CHAPTER WORKSHOP - "Taking Action for Birds in a Changing Climate"   Friday March 14

 The National Audubon Society along with Rowe Sanctuary will host an Audubon Chapter Workshop on Friday, March 14, at the Holiday Inn from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Against the backdrop of Nebraska's heralded spring bird migration, attendees will have opportunity to explore a number of topics in the areas of Chapter development, Important Bird Areas, Audubon's science programs, and Chapter resources.

This workshop takes place concurrently with NPABC meetings. NPABC and Audubon lunches are in same room, providing networking opportunities. In addition, NPABC members participating in NPABC meetings are invited to intend the Audubon Workshop before/after their NPABC meetings for only $5.

Activities Field Trips Workshops*

Museum of Nebraska Art Gala (Friday)
Join us for an artist reception highlighting the crane photography of Birgit Freybe Bateman on Friday March 14 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Museum of Nebraska Art in downtown Kearney. Light hors d'oevres will be served. This event is free and open to the public.

Sandhill Crane Behavior Class
Friday, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. Free with registration.

The Country Store

Birds of Lake McConaughy (Thursday - already full)
One of the state's best birding destinations, Lake McConaughy has the largest bird list of any location in Nebraska, about 340 species.

Crane Viewing in River Blinds (6-9 a.m. & p.m.)
Audubon's Rowe Sanctuary attracts the largest concentrations of Sandhill Cranes on the Platte River. Up to 15,000 cranes and geese per mile roost on the sanctuary each night. Join knowledgeable guides for sunrise or sunset trips to the viewing blinds.

Full-Day Birding Trip (Friday)
Local birding experts will lead guests to the best wildlife viewing areas within two hours of Kearney. Expect to see waterfowl, bald eagles, early migrants, winter residents, and possibly a greater prairie-chicken lek.

Half-Day Birding Trip (Friday and Saturday)
The Rainwater Basin is an excellent destination to view migrating ducks & geese and other early migrants.

Photography - Randy Hampton (Friday)
Randy Hampton, digital photography teacher and retired Lincoln Journal Star photojournalist, will conduct a photography workshop Friday from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn. Session includes a trip to the field to practice the newly learned techniques. See brochure for details.

Keeping an Illustrated Journal - Karina Helm (Saturday)
Scientific Illustrator Karina Helm will teach a range of field-adapted color sketching techniques to quickly illustrate the plants, animals and landscapes that surround you using pencil, pen, watercolor, and colored pencil. Takes place Saturday from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. See brochure for details.
