Rivers & Wildlife Celebration 2006

Michael Male & Judy Fieth

As the NPABC celebrates its 4th anniversary this spring, we decided we were ready to include a little more public outreach in our annual symposia. Therefore, the NPABC was honored to partner with Audubon Nebraska to co-host the Rivers & Wildlife Celebration (RWC) this year. The three-day event included all the traditional RWC activities including outstanding feature speakers, concurrent sessions, a great variety of bird watching field trips, information booths for non-profit groups, vendors at Rowe Sanctuary, and of course the ice cream social. The NPABC brought some new activities including concurrent session speakers from a broader spectrum of interests. Sessions featured topics of interest to conservationists, resource professionals, biologists, educators, and the general public. Additionally, our first annual Awards Ceremony kicked off the event Friday evening, and an exciting silent auction was held to benefit the NPABC Awards Program. Of course, Friday was also filled with NPABC Workgroup and Steering Committee meetings.

2006 Program

This partnership created excellent opportunities for wildlife biologists and resource professionals in the NPABC to mingle with a variety of people interested in wildlife, bird watching, and conservation.  It also generated fresh energy and variety for the RWC, now in its 36th year. This combination attracted over 210 participants, compared to about 150 last year.

This event would not have been possible without the extraordinary efforts of all our volunteers. Special thanks to members of the planning commitee: Kevin Poague, Bill Taddicken, Kent Skaggs, and Paul Tebbel from Audubon Nebraska; and  Laurel Badura, Diane Beachly, Andrea Cade, Felipe Chavez-Ramirez, Chris Thody, and Eric Volden from the NPABC.  We would also like to thank all those who volunteered at the Registration Desk, the NPABC Information Booth, and as session chairs, and those who contributed to the silent auction. A big thank-you has also been earned by all of the members of the Steering Committee, Support Group, and the Workgroups for all that they did for the NPABC and the RWC during the event, as well as everything they do for the NPABC and bird conservation in Nebraska every day.
