The Nebraska Natural Legacy Project
has developed and is implementing a blueprint for conserving Nebraska's
flora, fauna, and natural habitats through the proactive, voluntary
conservation actions of partners, communities, and individuals. This links
to the homepage for the project, which contains a wealth of information
including a link to download the final Nebraska Natural
Legacy Plan. Updated regularly.
USFWS Species
of Concern - most recent post to this site is Feb 2007
This website is
a clearinghouse of information on species of concern in Region 3. While
Nebraska is just west of this region, many of the birds listed also occur
here, including Black Tern, Cerulean Warbler, Common Tern, Henslow's
Sparrow, Loggerhead Shrike, Northern Goshawk, and occasionally Baird's
Sparrow. The Cerulean Warbler Summit 2 proceedings are packed with
information from the Feb. 2007 meetings.

November 2006
From this link you can download any of the presentations from
the workshop, often complete with speakers notes. Workshop purpose:
Since the realization more than 25 years ago that a large
portion of the new world avifauna was experiencing broad-scale declines,
avian conservation in North America has evolved into the most sophisticated,
all encompassing conservation effort in the world. The movement now includes
thousands of organizations focused on the common goal of stabilizing or
restoring populations of all bird species. Over a short time period
activities have moved through several phases, culminating in the production
of taxa-specific, continent-wide conservation plans that present population
targets for priority species. However, these plans provide no guidance in
how to reconcile conflicts between priority species, seasons, or spatial
scales when attempting to achieve population targets. There is an urgent
need to develop a conceptual approach and process that will allow the
conservation community to move from a set of independent objectives to
integrated goals that may be applied to specific landscapes. We will outline
the beginnings of a conceptual approach designed to evaluate goal-oriented,
landscape-scale management scenarios.
Reports from 1996-present, most since 2000.
Proceedings of the
26th Prairie Grouse Technical Council - September 2005
The 2005 Prairie Grouse Technical Council was held September

and abstracts of all talks, including the keynote address "An Ecological
Overview of the Nebraska Sandhills" by Gene Mack, Sandhills Coordinator,

Rocky Mountain
Research Station Publications
- 1963 to date
A USDA Forest Service page containing series publications from 1997-date as well as previous "Rocky Mountain Forest & Range" and "Intermountain Research Station" publications from 1963-1997, mostly in html format. Some recent publications include sage grouse habitat information. Paul Johnsgard, Ph.D., has
written prolifically on the subject of the birds of the Great Plains. This
PDF document contains a citation list of all ten books on the subject, plus
his journal articles, book sections, notes, reviews, encyclopedia articles,
popular writings, and supervised dissertations and theses.
